The Process and Ways to Express Gratitude

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Last week we held an AoP Online Circle focused on Gratitude. Thanks to all those who participated in that rich, heartfelt discussion. There were some compelling takeaways from our Circle that you may find useful. A question arose, “how do you ensure your gratitude practice doesn’t become boring and repetitive?” One of the participants responded that she "feels” into it every day. She takes a moment to physically experience whatever she is grateful for. We all gave that a moment to land, realizing that we miss the true magic of gratitude when we stop feeling it. Thinking about gratitude as a list of things we’re grateful for or as a task to be completed hijacks/blocks our heart’s ability to fill with appreciation.

Another aha emerged from a discussion on the importance of receiving gratitude well. If it is not received well, the joy in giving can be lessened. The gift is actually in the giving and receiving.
